Hexagon Series

Uniquely Stylized Audio Devices and Chargers

As an industrial designer at ASBIS I was working on various desktop and smartphone accessories for their brand named “Canyon“. Together with the “Canyon” team we had an oportunity to design uniquely shaped electronic devices for the Hexagon Series. As a result of our work Hexagon 110 Magnetic Wireless Charger, Hexagon 65 Wall Power Adapter and Hexagon 310 Wireless Charging Station were released with Hexagon 310 Wireless Charging Station received the Red Dot Design Award 2025.

The Hexagon series is a new product series by Canyon that goes in line with the brand’s bold and dynamic image. Canyon products are consumer electronics and phone accessories for young adults, with design focused on bold shapes, colors and materials. The Hexagon concept brings new shape to consumer electronics from smartwatches to phone chargers. Working on this series gave me an opportunity to experiment with various forms making the products we use everyday unique and playful.

The Hexagon series overview

Wireless charging pad

Wireless charging has been around for a while, however, it’s been more commonly used with Apple devices. With the new Qi2 standard it became a convenient way of charging Android devices as well, as it provides clutter free 15W fast charging with magnetic phone alignment. This is why as part of the Hexagon series we decided to make a unique Qi2 compatible wireless charging pad.

Introduction

We wanted our charging pad to be unique and reliable with its bold form and premium materials. This is why we chose anodized aluminium for this design. We were provided with a Qi2 module and started to build our design around it, experimenting with proportions and details.

Design concept

We had an idea to make the USB-C cable detachable to be easily replaceable if it breaks. However it made the charging pad too big to fit on the back of the phone as it would add too much empty space inside the housing. We also tried different surface materials and decided to make the surface rubbery to provide good grip on the smartphone.

Design challenges

Color and Finish

While designing this wireless charging pad we experimented with colors, graphics and materials. We had a set of predefined Pantone colors for the Hexagon series and tried coloring different cable parts as well as housing, applying varoius tints and finishes, and decided to keep the black tint with matte finish for the housing and a small colorful rubber detail on the cable. This way we were able to keep the design premuim and playful at the same time.
